Hazel Harpe

Conecuh County Extension 4-H Agent

Inducted December 7, 2010

Hazel Harpe was the county agent in Conecuh County when Susan Crowell was a 4-H member. She remembers, “Mrs. Harpe taught us to organize our lives through record keeping and prioritizing events and activities in our life.”

Mrs. Harpe met with 4-H clubs once a month and always had for each student copies of recipes, patterns, and rules for upcoming contests and events. She awarded ribbons and certificates for placing in contests, as well as information for the local newspapers.

Susan Crowell is a sixth-grade language arts teacher in Millbrook, and she continues to use the lessons taught by Mrs. Harpe. “I joined as a fourth-grader and continued in 4-H through high school. I used my 4-H record books as examples for my own 4-H club in Millbrook to use when setting up their record books.

“I truly believe that I am_a school teacher because Mrs. Harpe inspired me to challenge and inspire other children. Today that is what I do.

This lady deserves five stars for her hard work. She is a great lady.”
