In remembrance …

Annie Webb Henderson

(1887 – 1975)

Being secretary in a county Extension office brings its share of hard work and problems to solve. That never bothered Annie Webb Henderson. She maintained her cheerful demeanor throughout her service.

Annie was born in Spring Garden, Alabama, on March 28, 1887. Growing up in Cherokee County, she learned to love the land and its people. For many years, she worked in a store and also was a hotel hostess.

Then, in 1944, she had the opportunity to become secretary of the Cherokee County Extension Office. Her keen sense of humor won her many friends among coworkers as well as the rural clientele served by the county agents. Her compassion for farm families also gained her the love and respect of those who visited or called the office. Mrs. Webb retired in 1947.

To honor her years of service, the name Annie Webb Henderson is inscribed on the dedicatory plaque of the Extension Memorial Chapel.
