(1941 – 2024)
Jerry B. Clark began his career with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System as an assistant county agent in Walker County. He transferred to Green County in 1972 and became a County Agent Coordinator in 1977. After 31 years of service, Jerry retired in 1995.
As a lifetime learner, he constantly pushed himself to the next level and did not shy away from life’s challenges. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education in 1964 and Master of Education degree from Auburn University in August 1967. Later in 1978, he continued his education by obtaining an Educational Specialist degree from Mississippi State.
Jerry was very active in Extension work and community organizations. He is a life member of the Agricultural Alumni Association of Auburn University and was also a member of AACAA and NACAA. He received the Governor’s Conservation Educator of the Year Award by the Alabama Wildlife Federation for Alabama, Distinguished Service Award from NACAA, 4-H and Youth Achievement Award, NACAA Career Guidance National Award for outstanding service to you, AACAA Search for Excellence Award. He served as president of the Alabama Association of County Agricultural Agents.
As a community activist, he served on various local boards. Jerry helped initiate and oversee the first class of Leadership Greene County and was very instrumental in the restoration of the Green County Courthouse in the 1990s. The Chamber of Commerce recognized him with a Certificate of Appreciation for his leadership. He also received the Award of Merit from the Greene County Board of Commissioners for his dedication to the community. He was active in the Lion’s Club, Rotary Club, 911 Board, Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, Eutaw United Methodist Church and the ALFA Board.
After retirement from Auburn University, he worked over 10 years with the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Services. This opportunity allowed him to be actively involved with the farmers of Greene County and surrounding counties. Building relationships was always important to him.
Jerry was a man of honesty, integrity and excellent work ethic. He led by example, never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand.
In recognition of his years of service, the name of Jerry B. Clark is inscribed on the dedicatory plaque of the Extension Memorial Chapel.
