In remembrance …

Wayne E. Davis

(1937 – 2023)

Wayne E. Davis was born in Walker County, Alabama. Following high school, he attended Auburn University when he graduated in 1958 with a BA in Agriculture with a major in Animal Science. He received his MS in Dairy Science in 1968.

Wayne was the County Agent Coordinator in Autauga and Elmore County Extension offices until he retired in 1995. He served as the Livestock Director at the Alabama National Fair for many years. He was an active member of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association.

After retirement, he started Dry Lake Timber and worked that for several years before he decided to focus on his cattle farm. He was one of the top Registered Charolais Cattlemen in the south.

One of the many youths from his days as a County Agent remembers: “He positively influenced my career and assisted so many young people along the way. Due in great part to his efforts there was an active livestock program in Elmore County. He was an outstanding judging coach in livestock and dairy. I recall many times being in the back of his pickup riding to a field day for practice or a contest. I owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Davis who was dedicated to his craft but more importantly to the people in our county.”

Wayne was active in the First Baptist Church of Wetumpka where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Wetumpka Lions Club. He will be remembered as a loyal friend, a man of his word, a hardworking man of faith, and a man who loved his family.

In recognition of his years of service, the name Wayne E. Davis is inscribed on the dedicatory plaque of the Extension Memorial Chapel.
