Jewel Wesson Hardwick

(1935 – 2021)

Jewel Wesson Hardwick was born in Sylacauga, the daughter of the late Fred Edgar Wesson and Daisy Mae Stonecypher Wesson.  She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and attended the University of Montevallo.  She later received a B.S. degree in Education from Auburn University.

Hardwick worked as a County Extension Agent with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in Henry County for 32 years retiring in 1994.  She enjoyed working with the youth and the women in the county.  She was active in the National Association of Family and Consumer Science – Alabama Affiliate receiving recognition for her work.

She was a member of the Abbeville Matrons Club, serving several terms as president.  She also enjoyed the Abbeville Garden Club and her membership in the Shorterville Baptist Church.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, James Clanton Hardwick, and a son, Christopher Clanton Hardwick.  She is survived by three daughters, Katrina Blount (Jerry); Vivian Miller (Michael); and Elizabeth Garrett (Ron); one sister, Virginia Carter (Don); one brother, Dudley Wesson (Margaret); seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In recognition of her years of service, the name Jewel W.  Hardwick is inscribed on the dedicatory plaque of the Extension Memorial Chapel.
