In remembrance …

Kathryn D. Upton

(1924 – 1983)

A native of Round Mountain, Alabama, Kathryn D. Upton was born September 8, 1924. After graduating from Cedar Bluff High School, she earned a B.S. degree from Jacksonville State College in 1955. Ten years later, she was granted a Master’s degree, also from Jacksonville State.

Before gaining her degrees, Kathryn worked as Extension Secretary in Cherokee County from 1943 to 1948. Her dedication to the rural clientele won her their admiration. She was always willing to spend the extra time and energy to complete a task and help a farmer.

Remembered and loved by those she helped as well as her co-workers, Kathryn was a significant person in the Cherokee Extension Office. In recognition of her diligence and service, the name Kathryn D. Upton is inscribed on the dedicatory plaque of the Extension Memorial Chapel.
